Inspired by the culturally dynamic tradition of Afro-Puerto Rican poets such as Piri Thomas and Pedro Peitri, Lucas Rivera draws upon their unfiltered approach in this decades-spanning body of work, performing his original poetry with a Latin musical ensemble illuminating and grounding his stories in musical traditions of salsa, bomba, and plena.
