Civic Education

The Ceiba-LEDC partners with the Committee of 70 to bring civic education to youth in Eastern North Philadelphia. Young people from the age of four to twenty-four attend sessions which cover the basics of civic engagement, including understanding of our governmental systems, elected officials, and the importance of voting. Educators from the Committee of 70 work with the young people on reading and critical thinking. Activities include educational books, mock elections, and city budget division exercises. The overarching goal of this program are to:

· Combat misinformation and disinformation about democracy and voting, youth are growing up hearing it;

· Help youth become voter engagement influencers in their families and circle of friends;

· Ensure that our students are prepared to vote once they turn 18.
